Base Type Location Weight Best For
Ground Stake Outdoor only ~3.6 lbs Grass, dirt, and other soft ground
Cross Base Indoor or Outdoor ~6.7 lbs Hard, flat surfaces
Cross Base with Water Bag Indoor or Outdoor ~9.7 lbs filled Windy conditions needing extra stability
Square Base Indoor or Outdoor ~22 lbs Maximum stability on hard surfaces

Shape comes down to how the flag needs to look and where people are viewing it from. The Feather Angled Flag extends horizontally at the top, giving it a wider printable face when someone’s approaching from the side, common for storefronts where foot traffic passes parallel to the display. The Feather Convex Flag is the classic all-around shape, rounded at the bottom for the largest print area and the best balance of durability and visibility. The Teardrop Flag holds its shape without needing wind to stay taut, which makes it the strongest choice for indoor use or covered spaces with little airflow.

Base selection matters just as much as shape. A ground stake works well outdoors on grass or soft dirt, but it can’t stand on concrete or tile. Indoors, or on any hard surface, a cross base does the job, and adding the water bag gives it extra weight when wind is a factor outdoors. The square base is the heaviest, most stable option, worth choosing when the flag needs to stay upright in high-traffic areas or consistently windy conditions.

Single-sided flags aren’t blank on the back, the printing method shows a mirrored, muted version of your design from behind, still readable, just less vibrant than the front. Double-sided flags use two separate graphics sewn together with a solid layer between them, so both sides display full, true color.

What Makes a Feather Flag File Print-Ready

Feather flag artwork works a little differently than a flat banner, since the finished shape is curved or angled rather than a simple rectangle. Files should be built to the exact ordered size, no extra bleed or crop marks needed, since the final shape gets cut to the flag’s outline directly.

JPEG or PDF both work well, built in CMYK color mode for accurate printing. If you’re working with logos or text, converting fonts to outlines before sending helps avoid any last-minute font substitution issues.

Double-sided orders need two separate files, one for each side, since each side prints as its own complete graphic rather than showing through from one file.

Don’t have a print-ready file? That’s fine. We can email you a template to build from, or create the design for you based on your direction. Upload what you have, logos, photos, an existing design, and we’ll take it from there. If you have any questions along the way, call, text, or email us.

Turnaround Expectations

Standard feather flag orders typically take 5 business days once the design is approved. Double-sided orders may take a bit longer since each side prints as its own separate graphic.

Why Choose LDI for Feather Flags

Most places sell you one flag shape and call it done. We walk you through shape, size, and base together, since picking the wrong combination means a flag that doesn’t stand up right or doesn’t fit the space it’s going in.

That guidance matters more than people expect. A teardrop flag on a ground stake looks great outdoors but won’t work in a convention hall with hard flooring. A convex flag on a lightweight base blows over the first windy afternoon. We ask where it’s going before we build anything, so you’re not the one figuring that out after it arrives.

We also treat the whole setup as one order, not three separate decisions. Shape, size, and base get chosen together, based on your actual event or location, not sold to you piece by piece the way a lot of print shops handle it.

Twenty years in the print business means we’ve seen what happens when a flag order gets rushed or oversimplified. We’d rather ask one extra question upfront than have you standing at an event with the wrong setup. You still get a real person on the phone, someone who actually knows flags, not a generic order form with no guidance behind it.

Frequently Asked Questions

A feather flag has a curved or angled top for a larger printable area. A teardrop flag holds its shape without wind, making it a stronger choice for indoor or low-airflow spaces.

A ground stake works well on grass or soft dirt. For hard surfaces or high wind, a cross base with a water bag or a square base offers more stability.

Yes, all three shapes work indoors with a cross base or square base. A ground stake is outdoor use only.

No, single-sided flags show a mirrored, muted version of your design on the back, still readable, just less vibrant than the front.

Feather flags handle moderate wind well, especially with a properly weighted base. In high wind, a square base or water-weighted cross base helps keep it secure.
