Not every banner is doing the same job, so it doesn’t make sense for every banner to be made the same way. A sign for a weekend sale and a banner meant to hang outside your building for three years need completely different materials underneath the print.

The biggest factor most people don’t think about is thickness, and it matters for more than just durability. Thinner material like 13oz lets light pass through it, which means printing on both sides shows through to the other side and looks muddy. That’s why double-sided banners need 15oz or heavier, the thicker material blocks light instead of letting it bleed through.

Wind matters just as much as weather. A solid vinyl banner acts like a sail in open, windy conditions, which is exactly why mesh exists. The small perforations let wind pass through instead of catching it, making mesh the standard choice for construction site fencing and anywhere else wind is a real factor. If you’d rather stick with a solid banner, wind holes can be added on request, though that adds a few days to production time.

For anything larger than a standard press can handle in one piece, we produce grand format banners, welding panels together seamlessly. Some customers need this for a banner visible from a long distance, others just need something bigger than usual for the space they’re filling.

What Makes a Banner File Print-Ready

A banner that looks sharp on a screen doesn't always print sharp at full size. Resolution matters more here than almost any other print product, since banners are viewed at a distance but still get inspected up close before installation.

Vector files, like AI, EPS, or PDF, hold up best at large sizes since they scale without losing quality. High-resolution images work too, but they need to start large enough to hold detail once blown up to banner size.

Bleed matters as well. A banner file needs extra image or color extending past the actual edge, so nothing gets cut off or leaves a white border once it's trimmed to size.

Don't have a print-ready file? That's fine. Upload what you have, logos, photos, an existing design, and we'll build it into something that actually prints correctly. If you have any questions along the way, call, text, or email us.

Turnaround Expectations

Standard 13oz banners under 60 inches tall are often ready within 24 hours of design approval. Larger 13oz banners, along with 15oz, 18oz, and double-sided orders, typically take a few extra days once the design file is finalized. Quantity plays a role too, larger orders take longer to produce.

Why Choose LDI for Banner Printing

A banner isn't a decoration, it's working the whole time it's up, catching attention, holding through weather, surviving wind. We build every banner around the actual job it has to do, not just what looks good in a mockup.

That's why the material guide on this page exists. Most print shops sell one banner type and hope it fits. We ask what it's for first, indoors or out, temporary or permanent, windy location or not, and build from there.

Twenty years in the print business means we've seen what happens when the wrong material gets used, a solid banner torn off a construction fence, a 13oz banner bleeding through on a double-sided order. We'd rather steer you right the first time than fix it after.

You still get a real person handling your order, not a script or a queue. Someone who knows banners, knows your project, and tells you honestly what you actually need.

Frequently Asked Questions

Both block light for double-sided printing. 18oz is heavier and more durable, built for longer lifespans and harsher outdoor conditions.

Yes, on request. Wind slits let air pass through a solid banner, though adding them extends production by a few days.

Yes, we produce grand format banners by welding panels together seamlessly, no visible seam in the final result.

Both are available. Grommets are metal rings for hanging with rope or zip ties. Pole pockets are sewn sleeves that slide over a pole.

Yes, with 15oz or 18oz vinyl. Thinner 13oz material lets light bleed through, so it doesn't work well for double-sided printing.

It depends on the material. 13oz lasts 1-2 years, 15oz lasts 2-3 years, and 18oz holds up 3 or more years in outdoor conditions.
